Anonymously Yours or Anonimia in Spanish is a Mexican film directed by Maria Torres. The cast of the film is Harold Azuara, Estefi Meirelles, and Annie Cabello. The film was released on December 10, 2021, and people have heavily criticized it.
Review of the Film
Anonymously Yours is a high school-based rom-com movie, and fans can speculate how the plot of this movie will develop, but the movie has several plotholes that make this film hard and frustrating to watch. The story begins with Alex sending an accidental text to a girl named Vale, who happens to be his classmate.
The movie continues showing that the two are on their phones scrolling through social media, surfing the internet, and texting each other. They texted each other without realizing their internet friend was standing beside them.
However, several plotholes made no sense at all; for example, Alex’s wifi connection was unstable. The connection drops and disconnects at his home, and it somehow affects sending or receiving SMS messages?
Moreover, Alex and Vale have met several times, and they are good friends, but they have not asked for each other’s numbers once, and this was probably the biggest hole in the movie because the plot of the film is just based on a misunderstanding, where none of the kids bothered to get each other’s numbers or a picture of their anonymous internet friend; as a result, the movie starts breaking into pieces.
In spite of this cheesy mistake, and the sweet tone surrounding the movie, the audience had a difficult time watching the film because our world has been digitalized and almost everyone in the world uses smartphones and thinking that the whole plot was just based on a misunderstanding makes it absurd and annoying.
However, the film’s cast did great work, and the couple had fantastic on-screen chemistry and some sweet moments two had, which made the film a little bearable. The film had the potential to be one of the best high school rom-com movies, but the poor direction and several plotholes in the script that were too big to be covered ruined the film.
