Sitcoms have indeed come a long way since the time the concept of comedy shows first developed. They have been the best at keeping the audiences happy and smiling without involving them intellectually. But to be a sitcom that touches upon social and cultural issues is something truly rare. To make a place in the hearts of the masses without offending anyone while delivering a social message isn’t an easy task.

Black-ish is an American sitcom that has been excelling in it since 2014. It premiered in September 2014 and has had several seasons, each available for streaming on the entertainment media platform ABC. It revolves around a black family whose patriarch feels that the family is losing its cultural values in order to become a perfect fit for the modern world.

Why Black-ish?

The title Black-ish has been thoughtfully given to notice a racially black but socially almost Black family that is gradually losing its original culture while settling in the modern world. The show deals with an upper-middle-class family as they go about their daily routine, be it work, family issues, or social issues. The series is packed with humor but does have its share of poignant moments.

All About the Series

The series is quite an interesting one and has been able to keep its fan base glued to it for quite a few years now. The most attractive part of the show is that it’s not simply a family drama; the show talks about race, has humorous elements related to the same, doesn’t get offended, and still succeeds in winning positive reviews from the viewers and critics alike. Everyone in the family seems to be slouching when it comes to cultural ethics and values.

The more they interact with the outside world, the better they understand it and tend to go a bit lenient about their own culture. Along with it, they are always seen as “Blacks,” no matter how much they try to break free from their cyst. Despite it all, the shoe makes its audience go haywire with laughter. One never feels that they are actually watching a show that touches upon the issue of race. Yes, that’s how subtle it is. The sitcom is undoubtedly insightful and unique in its approach.

Black-ish is probably one of the best sitcoms on television today. There has been a decline in the quality of sitcoms in the past few years, but this one is very particular about maintaining its standards. This show that centers around an African-American family has elements of humor that are essentially poignant and culturally viable themes.

The audience has loved it so far and is expected to do the same for as long as it goes on. The creativity and skills of the directors and producers must be praised here for maintaining the show’s charm for such a long period of time without losing any significant portions of the fan base.
