Carrie (1976): Limited Theatrical Releases and What You Should Know Before Watching?

Certain movies, irrespective of their genre, create a benchmark by simply existing. They deserve to be celebrated and brought to light, no matter the number of years that have passed since their release. Carrie is a conventional horror movie that is themed to be a fantasy-revenge film.

About the Limited Theatrical Release

Carrie, the much-praised horror movie, is celebrating its 45th anniversary by returning to the cinemas for a limited period of time. This limited theatrical release is being looked forward to by the older generation more because they want to show this generation how ahead of time certain movies were back then. The movie will be re-released on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Fathom Events will be sponsoring the re-release of the movie.

They will be screened at AMC Fairlane Megastar 21, in Michigan Avenue in the town center in Dearborn. On September 26, it’ll be in theaters at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on September 29, it’ll be out at 7 p.m.

What You Should Know Before Watching

Carrie was an American supernatural horror film released in 1976 was directed by Brian De Palma, which was adapted from a novel written by Stephen King in 1974 with the same name. It was the first movie to be based on Stephen King’s literary works, followed by which many of his stories were made into movies.

The movie revolves around a teenage girl who is quiet and shy in her outlook and is studying at Bates High School. She is the daughter of a fundamental religiously fanatical mother and is constantly taunted by her classmates. One of the girls at her school, named Sue, is taken aback by the way she is treated and decides to be of some help to her by telling her boyfriend to ask Carrie out to go with him to the senior prom.

Another girl named Chris hates Carrie beyond measures; on learning about Sue’s plan, she pitches a plan to embarrass Carrie on the prom night. Chris, along with her boyfriend Tommy, pulls a trick on her, making her look stupid when she is given the title of prom queen in a rigged the election. No one knows that Carrie possesses the power of telekinesis, and this incident triggers this latent power of hers as she gets violently angry.

The film was an astounding success since it had a gross earning of over $30 million at the US Box Office while it had a budget of merely $1.8 million. It received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike and even received two Oscar nominations. It was soon followed by a sequel named Rage: Carrie 2. In a survey conducted in 2008, it was revealed that Carrie was the most frequently watched film among teens during Halloween.

Conclusion

Even after all the years that have passed after the movie’s release, the limited theatrical release is being awaited eagerly by people. They’re excited about watching their favorite film on the big screen, especially when Halloween’s around the corner.
