Children of Blood and Bone was once the most anticipated thing in the book world. The book’s film rights, written by Tom Adeyemi, were sold in 2017 (a year before the book’s publishing) to Fox 2000 Pictures. The book lived up to its expectations and debuted on the number one position in New York Times YA Best Seller list. Seeing all this, we can say that the audiences will be excited for the release of the movie adaptation.
Although, the journey of the book to get converted to a movie has been slow as the rights were already purchased three years ago. Disney had acquired 20th Century studios in 2019, making this journey even more complicated.
Release Date
The movie still has no confirmed release date, and there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding this topic. It seemed in February 2019 that the film would now finally be getting off the ground owing to Rick Famuyiwa’s appointment on the director’s chair. But, later on, Disney acquired 201th Century Studios, which led to the closure of production companies and the cancellation of some projects.
Instead of canceling Children of Blood and Bone, it was transferred to Lucasfilm in 2020. There was also confirmation of the movie being co-produced by Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios.
Cast
As of now, there are no announcements regarding the cast of Children of Blood and Bone. This can be perceived as a sign of the production’s reach before the film adaptation’s release. Whether Rick Famujiwa will remain on board on the project or not is also unclear. In the past, he has directed three episodes of the award-winning series of Lucasfilm’s, which may indicate that he’ll remain on board with this project. His IMDb page suggests otherwise, as currently, he has a lot of projects on his plate.
Plot
As per Goodreads, the book is about Zélie, who is a citizen of Orïsha. In this place, the king has banned the use of magic, and he is also responsible for the death of Zélie’s mother and all other magic users. Zélie has a chance to bring the magic back and rebel against the king’s monarchy. With the help of the princess, Zélie is determined to outrun the prince who wishes to eradicate magic for good. Although Orïsha is in danger, Zélie poses a more significant threat with her uncontrolled magic powers and growing emotions for an enemy.
If the first movie gets made, the filmmakers can expand the project as Adeyemi has already released a sequel to the book named Children of Virtue and Vengeance. In this, Zélie and Amari are happy with the leader who took Amari’s place. David Magee and Kay Oyegun have managed the screenplay of Children of Blood and Bone.
Is it Worth Waiting?
This movie deserves a lot as the book was a great hit among the audiences. We hope that it comes super soon. Although many details aren’t available currently, the expectations are still high from this book adaptation.
