Cyrano: January 21 Theatrical Release and What To Know Before Watching?

Cyrano is an upcoming romantic musical drama. The film follows the story of the titular Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac. Cyrano de Bergerac was a French playwright, novelist, epistolarian and duelist. Cyrano is too self-conscious about his appearance in the romantic drama to woo the woman he crushes over. Roxanne, who had caught the eyes of the wordsmith, is in love with another named Christian.

Being too shy to pursue her, Cyrano helps Christian woo Roxanne by writing her love letters. Joe Wright directed the film based on Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play named Cyrano de Bergerac. Erica Schmidt wrote the screenplay of the film. The film was first released on September 5, 2021, at Telluride Film Festival.

The film will have a theatrical release on January 21, 2022. The film currently holds a rating of 6.3 on IMDb with an approval rating of 81 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. The Peter Dinklage starrer has 69 per cent on Metacritic.

When is Cyrano Releasing Theatrically?

The romantic musical is set to release on January 21, 2022, in theatres limited in the US. The film premiered on September 2 2021, at the Telluride Film Festival. The film has also been released at the film festivals in Mill Valley, the Hamptons Savannah and Rome.

Initially, the film was set to release on December 25 2021, for a limited theatrical run in the US. However, the date was shifted to December 31 2021. The release plans changed once again, and the date changed to January 21, 2022. It had a one-week theatrical run in Los Angeles from December 17 2021, till December 23 2021, to qualify for the Academy Awards.

According to the premise on the film’s IMDb page, the film follows the life of wordsmith Cyrano who is very self-conscious to woo his friend Roxanne because of his appearance. He, however, helps Christian, another contender of Roxanne’s heart, to woo her.

What to Know Before Watching Cyrano?

The romantic musical comedy film is based on the life of the novelist, playwright, epistolarian and duellist, Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac, famously known as Cyrano de Bergerac. Cyrano is a dazzling man who is way ahead of his time. He has a ferocious vocabulary and is a brilliant duelist. However, he has an issue.

Due to his appearance, he has become very self-conscious. This self-consciousness is harming him. He cannot court his friend and socialite Roxanne and thinks that he is unworthy of her love. There is another issue at hand, as Roxanne has fallen in love with a man named Christian. At the turn of the event, Cyrano helps Christian woo his life’s love by helping him write the best love letters.

Peter Dinklage portrays the protagonist and dazzles the audience as Cyrano de Bergerac’s wordsmith. He is joined by Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Bashir Salahuddin and Ben Mendelsohn. The main cast is supported by the ensemble of Anjana Vasan, Bettrys Jones, Beverly Rudd, Celeste Dodwell, Celeste Dring, Colin Mace, Giles King, Glen Hansard, Joshua James, Katy Owen, Kyla Goodey, and Leo Rait.

Lucas Peters, Mark Bagnall, Mark Benton, Mike Shepherd, Monica Dolan, Nandi Bhebhe, Paul Biddiss, Paul Hunter, Peter Wight, Richard McCabe, Ruth Sheen, Sam Amidon, Scott Folan and Tim McMullan. Carl Grose, Sarah Wright and John Locke also star. Joe Wright directed the film with Erica Schmidt as the writer. The film is based on Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play named Cyrano de Bergerac.

What Does the Public Think About Cyrano?

With the current rating of 6.9 on IMDb, the musical is barely hanging on there with the public reviews. Out of the four IMDb reviews, two have outrightly given the film 1 star out of 10 due to it being a ‘low-quality flick’. However, the other two reviews balance the negative reviews out and give the film a 7 out of 10, calling it the best performance of Peter Dinklage yet. The film is said to have an ‘excellent potential to capture interest’.
