If you were a huge fan of the Ghostbuster movie, released in 1984 – the new movie written and directed by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan might get you very excited. Called Ghostbusters: Afterlife, most of the original cast, including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and, Dan Aykroyd, are returning, along with other notable actors like Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, and Finn Wolfhard.
The movie producer is Ivan Reitman, the director of the 1984 Ghostbusters movie. And the executive producers are Dan Aykroyd, Gil Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Michael Beugg, Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth.
Inspiration for the New Movie
In 2016 Paul Feig directed an all-women sequel that did not make the cut and left most of the fan base disappointed. However, Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman (the director of the first movie), made it clear that although he thinks highly of the 2016 movie, he has based his entirely on a vision of a young female that came to him randomly.
The new lead that inspired him to create this movie was a young 12-year old girl, and soon after that, the entire idea for the film started panning out. What started as one character eventually became an entire family and has now been turned into a full-length movie.
Cast and Storyline
The young girl will picture by Mckenna Grace, with Finn Wolfhard playing her brother’s role, and their parent will be Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon. After kicked out of their home in New York, the family of four just moved into the countryside.
The newest clip from the upcoming movie throws a bit of nostalgia into the mix and has the fan base looking forward to the actual release later this year. In the scene, the father, played by Paul Rudd, is shopping for groceries when a bag of Mini-Puft marshmallows breaks open and goes all gremlins.
Connections to the Original Film
The fact that Murray is coming back to play his role of Dr Peter Venkman, the psychologist who is also a womanizer, is in itself a win. The actor had considered hanging up his boots a while ago, and his coming back could be a script that was truly worth it. The other sequels or tangent stories from the original one certainly let a few people, including their cast, down – but the upcoming film promises a better and more positive result are coming our way.
However, considering the new location of the film and the settling in which it is taken. It is still confusing how all the old cast members and the characters will fit in. But given the great writing, extraordinary acting and overwhelming fan support – this must be possible, if not mind-blowing.
