Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a stop-motion animated movie directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson. The new animated movie is based on Gris Grimly’s version of Pinocchio. Grimly took inspiration from the novel The Adventures of the Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Guillermo del Toro will mark his debut in animated movie direction with his new movie.

Patrick McHale wrote Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Matthew Robins, and Gris Grimly. The animated movie is a dark version of the childhood fable Pinocchio. It is worth noting that the movie is Guillermo’s longtime project. He announced the project in 2008, and the movie was originally scheduled to premiere in 2013.

In January 2022, we got the first look at Guillermo’s new animated movie, and it was announced that the movie would release in December 2022 on Netflix. The movie had its original schedule to release in October 2021. But due to an unprecedented pandemic, the release shifted to December 2022. Unfortunately, there is no news on the exact date of release by the authorities.

Why Is It Taking Too Long To Release On Netflix?

Production of stop-action movies takes a lot of time and money. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a huge project and is a finished product of delicate details. According to IMDb, the movie’s pre-production started in 2019, and the post-production began in June 2021.

What Do We Know So Far?

In 2015, Guillermo del Toro revealed that the movie would touch political history. It is not a family movie to watch on the weekends. The new Pinocchio is a pure contrast to Disney’s Pinocchio. Guillermo said in the interview that he had used some “strange resources.” However, he also said that the movie would contain some fairytale charms.

Guillermo is known for his epic works like The Shape of the Water and the Pan’s Labyrinth. In another interview, Guillermo promises the audience his new movie is nothing like any fairytale movie the world has known. He also confessed the movie is personal to him.

Guillermo expressed the movie is very deep and touches the actual morals of the fable. He promises the audience will navigate through different emotions while watching the movie. He also confessed that he tears up every time he watches the movie.

Plot

The movie depicts the rise of fascism with Benito Mussolini’s control over France in 1930. Guillermo stated in an interview that the plot of the movie revolves around an innocent boy living with his uncaring father. The little boy is Pinocchio, lost in the world beyond comprehension. He learns and explores the depths of society controlled by Mussolini.
