The mixtape is a family film that revolves around a mixtape that is emotionally significant. With its release, it won’t be wrong to say that Netflix is going totally analog. It’s about a girl who tries to find out about her parents by reconstructing the songs present on the cassette.
This movie has been in the making for quite some time now. Stacey Menear wrote the script, and it was also in 2009 Black List, which features the best-unproduced scripts. In 2012, reports came out that Tom Vaugh would direct the project. As years passed by, nothing happened, and the project came to a dead end. Currently, after a decade, the movie is ready to hit Netflix.
Valerie Weiss, who earlier directed TV shows like Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and Outer Banks, will also be directing Mixtape along with Alice Wu. Don’t confuse Mixtape with Soundtrack (which is a canceled project and was renamed as Mixtape) as these are two entirely different movies.
