The Wonder is a thrilling psychological novel by Emma Donoghue, who drew inspiration from a 19th-century experience of “Fasting girls”. The story revolves around Anna O’Donnell, the child protagonist who quits feeding herself yet remains alive, and a nurse named Lib Wright, who comes to verify and study the reasons behind such a phenomenon and initially believes it to be a deception. However, an influx of a large number of people is also witnessed to come to Anna’s village just to see the unnatural child.
A film of the same name is to be directed by Sebastian Lelio and scripted by Alice Birch and Sebastian Lelio, keeping in pace with the original story by its author Emma Donoghue. The film will be shot in Ireland and has been advanced with the help of Screen Ireland and Access Entertainment.

Storyline
The novel depicts a young girl who has left eating for months yet surviving in the world miraculously without having any effect. An English nurse is being summoned to the tiny village in Irish Midlands to study its reason. She initially came with the motive to reveal the false claim behind the situation and believes she is being fed secretly. But with time, she grows fond of the child and fails to find the exact reason behind it since she is not being fed at all.
Many men also come to see the girl alongside a journalist to record the tale and consider the entire situation to be nothing less than a miracle. The plot proceeds with the gradual development of both the nurse and the eleven-year-old girl, who gradually changes the other’s life. It is a psychological thriller and a gothic horror that draws its plot from the phenomenon of Fasting girl, prevalent in the 1990s.
