Amidst an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement, the ‘No Hard Feelings’ theater screening descended into sheer chaos and pandemonium. A New Mexico man is suspected of shooting and killing another theatergoer in a quarrel over-allocated tickets for Jennifer Lawrence‘s latest comedy, “No Hard Feelings,” according to KRQE-TV.
At about 9 p.m., the incident occurred at a Century Rio theater. Following an arrest request acquired by KRQE, Enrique Padilla and his girlfriend got into an altercation with 52-year-old Michael Tenorio over the fact that he and his wife were seated in their allotted seats. An off-duty police officer at the movie witnessed the fight but did not see a gun in the blackness of the theater and claimed he heard the rapid firing of gunshots before one of the men involved fled. After getting roughly 20 calls about the event, emergency personnel went to the area, but Mr. Tenorio, who his wife claims was not armed, died on the spot.
What Happened in Century Rio Theater: The No Hard Feeling Theater Chaos?
Following a criminal complaint, Tenorio, with his wife, Trina Tenorio, acquired a set of tickets for spots 8 and 11 in Row F, hoping that whoever owned the spots in between would let them sit alongside when they showed up at the theater, a staffer offered permission to take a set of side-by-side seats while clarifying the circumstances to their other moviegoers, as the Albuquerque News Journal reported.
A short time following that, they were accosted by Enrique Padilla, 19, and his girlfriend, who was irritated to see the couple in their chairs. According to police, a movie theater employee was initially able to de-escalate the circumstances, and both couples were eventually placed next to one another inside Theater 15.
