Outlander, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series, is an epic drama that revolves around the love story of a 20th-century combat nurse and 18th-century highlander. As time felt like it slowed to a crawl because of Covid – 19, a time-traveling show full of romance and adventure (and some extremely terrifying situations) was just what we needed. With its meticulous attention to detail and beautiful period clothing, STARZ’s this masterpiece has been nothing short of success ever since it first premiered in August of 2014.
The story unravels in 1945 with Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Frank Randall (played by Tobias Menzies) enjoying their second honeymoon in Scotland after being apart for a long time because of their duties in World War II as combat nurses and as an officer respectively. But, things turn sour very quickly when Claire accidentally steps on some stones that mysteriously transport her to 1743. Heart shattered, and life threatened, she’s forced to marry a gallant young man named Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughen). Claire goes through many pitfalls as she struggles to pick between two monumentally distinctive men and her life around them.

ToggleExpected Cast and Characters
The old cast will continue to add immense complexity to the story with Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, the brave nurse who has to make a difficult decision, Sam Heughen as Jamie Fraser, Claire’s husband and a rebellious warrior, Sophie Skeleton as Brianna Randall, Claire and Jamie’s daughter, and Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield. But the show will also be graced by new characters of the Christie family— Jessica Reynolds as Malva Christie, Mark Lewis Jones as Tom Christie, and Alexander Vlahos as Allan Christie.
Expected Storyline
Since the show has been adapted from the Outlander saga by Diana, season 6 will also be roughly inspired by book 6 of the series “A Breath Of Snow and Ashes.” It is expected that the sixth season will continue to build on the premise of the strength of Jamie and Claire’s love and how far they will truly have to go to protect the ones they love. Although Claire already knows about the explosive political unrest, is rushing to meet them, the Fraser family has to fight to maintain harmony. Not only do they have to safeguard their home from outside factors, but they also deal with the discordance within their community.
The cast members have also given us something to look forward to. Claire will learn to heal from all the trauma that she has been through when she was brutally assaulted by a group of men in the season 5 finale. The revolution of Claire and Randall’s relationship will coincide with that of Post Colonial nation.
Has a Trailer Come Out?
Unfortunately, an official trailer has not been released by STARZ yet. However, worry not about Outlander fans! The network did amuse us with a behind-the-scenes teaser that is 1 minute long with a peek of the cast filming and what to expect visually from the upcoming season.
Expected Release Date
An official premiere date for season 6 hasn’t been set yet but is expected to be announced by Late September 2021. On June 1, World Outlander Day, it was announced that season 6 had officially completed filming and will head into production, to the joy of the fans. Deadline has indicated that new episodes are expected to set the screen on fire by early 2022.
However, season 6 will consist of only eight episodes because of the unprecedented pandemic and for the safety of all those involved in developing the show. The premiere episode will be 90 minutes long! Even though the sixth season is shorter than expected, STARZ has assured that season 7 has already been picked up and will be much longer than sixteen episodes.
