A photocopier is an Indonesian film that takes the road less traveled. With not so happy ending and justice served not so quickly, the movie follows the journey of a young girl Sur who tries to recall the events of the night she can’t remember clearly.

The story is a gripping tale that shows the harsh reality of the society- gender stereotypes where boys are free to roam and smoke in public while a girl, if attempts to do so, is deprived of education for the rest of her life and sensitive issue of sexual abuse and terrible culture of shaming the victim.

The performance by the protagonist, essayed by Shenina Syawalita Cinnamon, is quite a commendable one, with her transformation from a weak and timid girl to a fearless woman who stands up for the truth against the ugly taunts of the society. The actors’ strong narrative and superb acting will make you hooked to the screen till the very end.

Should You Stream or Skip Photocopier?

Although the movie begins on a slow note, it takes up its pace and sets the tone right. This vibrant film makes for a compelling watch for sure. It also uses metaphor to depict the beautiful meaning, and at times certain scenes make the audience feel for Sur. All in all, a must-watch. So stream it right away.
