The Siberian tigers are a native of Russia far east, precisely North Korea. In olden times it was the whole range of the Korean peninsula, northern China and even Mongolia. And now it’s only restricted to Sikhote – Alin mountain range. According to the study, in the year 2005 there were about 331- 393 adult Siberian tigers, with the breeding adults restricted to only 250.
Because of the conservation programs the population of these tigers were stable for a while, but soon after 2005, the strength of the Siberian tigers in this region soon started fading. According to the 2015 census, the number had increased to 480- 540 individuals and 100 cubs. And then a detailed census led to the head count increasing to 562 tigers in Russia.
Why Siberian Tigers?
Siberian tigers are now on the verge of being extinct. And these Siberian tigers were actually genetically similar to the Caspian tigers who are extinct. According to the study they both have some common DNA too. These Siberian tigers have several names according to the places, such as ‘ Amur tiger’ , “ Korean tiger “, “ Ussurian tiger “ etc.
