Adaptation Of Station Eleven Novel

The 2014 novel is about the flu that takes over the world and destroys humanity. Then the survivors of the flu have to keep surviving and starting their life over. The first episode of the show starts with Arthur Leander, a stage actor playing King Lear on Chicago winter nights. He then suddenly collapses and dies, which causes a huge ruckus.

Due to the unexpected turn of events, a writer named Jeevan Chaudhary in the audience and the 8-year-old actor Kristen Raymonde who was playing King Lear’s daughter in the play, are together. Jeevan keeps on looking for the kid’s parents, but they are nowhere to see.

Later they get to know that a deadly virus has taken over the world, and people are lining up in front of hospitals and dying strangely. Jeevan then takes her to his home, a building high up the ground level, where he lives with his brother Frank.

Shift In Timeline

The plot then suddenly shifts to a decade later when humanity is slowly starting to revive. People are getting together in small communities and starting life all over again. We see Kristen grown up, still performing plays however she can. In part after the flu, some comforting and uplifting stories are told about how humans find a home and create new communities even in times where there is none.

It is said that while making the adaptation of the novel, the makers contemplated different versions of the show. There had been many changes made in the series compared to the novel. Now that only 3 episodes of Station Eleven have been released, how the story continues is yet to see.

The Takeaway From The Story

The show, like in the novel, does not only focus on the loss or tragedy due to the threatening flu, but it is mostly a story of how humans need to thrive in the worst of situations. The scenes where the survivors talk about their past memories to comfort each other are heart-touching.

Reception From The Audience

Unlike the other shows based on survival which we had usually seen, station eleven does not make you feel numb or despair at the end. This show, according to the novel, has a ‘happy ending’ where the survivors start a new life and learn the more important aspects of life. This show makes you feel all kinds of emotions, a whole package. The audience mostly had positive reviews about the show and how it spreads out positive energy through it.

You can watch the series right now on HBO Max. The 4th and 5th episode is set to release on December 23, 2021. Watch it yourself and see if it’s your kind of show.

The only word in the dictionary which can describe Lokesh well is "Curious". He is a man who sits in the corner of a café, sipping his coffee and watch others and write about them having a good time. Addicted to bettering himself each day. An impressive introvert who finds his home in the places he travels. It's either the power of universe or sunsets that sets his soul free. In between, He can be found wrapped in his own bubble, knitting stories even before the sun rises!
