Holidays and festivities are everyone’s favorite, and so are romantic comedies. The two have been successfully merged by director-producer Nancy Meyers and co-producer Bruce A. Block in their film The Holiday. The movie serves its name rightly and brings out the holiday spirit mixed with love.
The Holiday had its premiere on November 29, 2006, in New York and was released in theatres on December 8th 2006. Columbia Pictures distributed the film in North America and overseas by Universal Pictures. The movie can now be seen on the streaming network Hulu.
Plot
We will see Iris Simpkins, a content writer for The Daily Telegraph in London, who still has feelings for her ex-lover, Jasper Bloom, who cheated on her. She is crestfallen to discover that he had an engagement with some other woman, and she decides to go for a getaway for the holidays.
Amanda Woods, on the other hand, living in Los Angeles, works as a trailer producer for movies. She breaks up with her boyfriend, Ethan, after he cheats on her. Amanda comes across Iris’ cottage for a home swap and they exchange houses for two weeks.
Iris undergoes an easy transition, whereas Amanda changes her mind and plans to return the day after leaving. On the same night, Graham, Iris’ brother, who is an editor and extremely good looking, drops by to spend the night as he was heavily drunk. Amanda allows him to stay for the night, and they engage in a conversation. Graham and Amanda share a kiss followed by a session of passionate lovemaking and decided to part ways later in the morning.
The next day, later in the evening, Graham goes out for dinner and spots Amanda in the same place and decides to stay a bit longer than expected. Iris on the other hand meets with Amanda’s neighbour Arthur Abbott and Iris without hesitation talks about her troubled relationship. Amanda and Graham get cozy and intimate details about their lives, they discover that their relationship is too complicated for them to handle.
Iris on the other hand, gets inspired by some movies that Arthur suggested her and successfully kicks Jasper out. Later the four young lovers detangle their lives and spend a live-filled Christmas together. In order to find out how we must watch the movie which will give us a few more answers.
Cast

The movie was shot in two different locations – Los Angeles and England. The movie has received mixed reviews from critics, and most of them label the movie as sweet and touching.
