Director Sean McNamara is back with a new genre that is a mix of Historical Romance, Drama, and Science-Fiction. The movie is called The King’s Daughter and was released in theatres across the U.S. on January 21, 2022. The movie was shot at the beautiful City of Versailles, France, and at Melbourne, Australia, and is co-produced by James Pang Hong, Paul Currie, Wei Han, David Brookwell, Hong Pang, Evan Wang, Qingfeng Du.
The movie is based on Vonda N. McIntyre’s best-selling novel, which was released in the year 1997 by the name The Moon and the Sun. The story is set in 17th Century France, at the court of Sun King, were to escape mortality, the King has to sacrifice a mermaid on Lunar Eclipse and also mend his relationship with his daughter at the same time.
The movie was set to be released in 2014, but due to some unseen circumstances, it was delayed year by year, finally making way to be released in the year 2022. The IMDB ratings are set at 5/10, which is pretty low and kinda expected due to the given budget not being utilized properly on the film and also not doing justice to the Nebula Award winner Best-Selling Novel of 1997.
So now comes the main question: Can we stream it on any OTT platforms or not? But before we answer this question, let’s see a brief plot of the movie.
The King’s Daughter Synopsis
The story starts with Marie-Josephe, King Louis XIV’s illegitimate daughter running around the beach and going to the sea being ordered by Nuns who were in charge of her to come out of water. As she was stashed away in her childhood, she had not even the slightest clue that her dad might be the monarch of Versailles.
Meanwhile, at Versailles, King Louis XIV’s life was in danger and after escaping the close-to-death call goes to doctor Labarthe, who suggests he find a mermaid and sacrifice her to gain immortality. Jean-Michael Lintillac was the captain sent to the Atlantic Ocean in search of the mermaid. The king also orders for his daughter to be brought back to the kingdom.
The story then evolves into the mermaid, captain, and king’s daughter being really close friends and the king realizing his mistake.
