The Last Kingdom will premiere on Netflix on March 9th, 2022 for its last chapter. But as we’ve learned, Uhtred’s story will continue. Here’s what we understand regarding The Last Kingdom season 5 as of February 2022, as well as a bit regarding the next film.

The Last Kingdom is a Netflix Original period drama inspired by novelist Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories. Originally a co-production with the BBC and Netflix. Netflix has exclusively produced it since season 3.

Netflix confirms the extension of The Last Kingdom for a fifth season on Netflix; However, it is the movie’s final broadcast. We’ll get to this in a minute, but anybody familiar with the original literature for The Last Kingdom understands how much detail from the novels will be left out. Netflix announced on February 9th, 2022, The Last Kingdom’s fifth season would be available internationally on March 9th, 2022.

When Will Netflix Release It?

Production was set to start in 2020, reportedly to Alexander Dreymon, actor of The Last Kingdom. Due to COVID-19, the actors and producers will be operating within severe guidelines. Several development sources suggested that filming will begin in Hungary’s Korda Studios in November 2020.

Having said that, we didn’t receive any form of formal indication the program was in development until April 2021, when a brief clip was broadcast to The Last Kingdom’s YouTube page proceeding through the process. Sasak City has organized an unauthorized fan conference to be held at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri.

Adaptation Into a Film After Season 5

Netflix revealed that a film will release in late October 2021, implying that season 5 is not going to be the season finale we thought. A. Dreymon will resume his part in the upcoming film, which will begin recording in early 2022. Ed Bazalgette will helm the movie, which will be shot in Hungary and the United Kingdom.

Season 5 “finishes the series,” according to creator Nigel Marchant, but “there was dependably one additional tale that we try to convey,” he said.

Which Books Will Include in Season 5 of The Last Kingdom?

Season 4 of The Last Kingdom continues the practice established in prior seasons. Each season spans approximately the happenings of two volumes from The Saxon Stories literature. The incidents of The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne were chronicled in Season 4.

The show detracts from the authors further and further with every season; However, there are still important story hooks that the show maintains to pursue while investigating the storyline of the literature. Such topics like Uhtred’s age aren’t covered as fully in the program as they are in the literature, in which Uhtred is above 50 years old by the happenings of the fourth season.
