The fourth installment in the Matrix franchise is very much in talks. Since its inception in 1999, the entire franchise has witnessed a gradual evolution of narratives across the sequels which bespeak its popularity. Originally intended to be a trilogy by Lana Wachowski with the release of The Matrix Revolution in 2003, it very much felt like the end. However, now The Matrix 4 is round the corner, and here are some of the facts and ongoing rumors that encircle this movie.
When will The Matrix 4 Release?
Director Lana Wachowski announced the project in August 2019. Co-produced by the Warner Bros and Village Roadshow, The Matric 4 will hit the theatres and HBO Max on December 22, 2021. No footage or trailer is yet available for the movie.
The release date witnessed various fluctuations during this period. Originally scheduled to release on May 21, 2021, it was pushed to April 1, 2022, because of the ongoing Covid crisis. However, in October last year, the present release date for December 2021 was finalized. The streaming platform HBO Max will also screen the movie on its release.
Who is In the Cast of The Matrix 4?
Some of the original core cast members will join the cast of The Matrix franchise again. Keanu Reeves will reprise his iconic role as Neo, and Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity, although they were dead in the prequel. Wachowski’s script pleased Reeves, and he was more than ready to join the franchise again. Daniel Bernhardt plays Agent Johnson once again, and Niobe by Jade Pinkett Smith.
Lambert Wilson may make a return as Merovingian, only if permitted by his tight schedule. His reprisal may also lead to the inclusion of Monica Bellucci’s character as Merovingian’s wife, Persephone. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is rumored to be joining the plot as younger Morpheus, but he is spilling no secrets.
The star-studded cast also includes Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Stephen Graham, Jessica Henwick, Ellen Hollman, among others. Brian J Smith, Eréndira Ibarra, and Toby Onwumere are also in the cast. Gina Torres, Hugo Weaving, and Laurence Fishburne will not make a comeback.
What Rumor Surrounds The Plot of The Matrix 4?
The long-awaited sequel is almost here. However, no details are available about the plot. It is to be titled The Matrix Resurrections. The shooting took place in San Francisco and Berlin. Fans are speculating what may happen in the upcoming sequel as Wachowski and the cast are keeping tight-lipped about it.
However, the buzz-cut hair of Neo in the recently released images hints that he is likely to have stepped outside the Matrix. The movie will stay relevant to what happens in the present times with enough actions, interesting visuals, and a plot with a wake-up call.
Neo’s comeback from the sacrifice is intriguing fans the most. They are waiting to see how he makes it from the dead without making it look superficial. Another speculation about ‘The One’ is also leading to hypothetical theories. However, the movie as per Reeves will not walk into the past.
Neo’s life is caught up in the simulation of cause and effect. Reeves’s character as the villain is probable, making him an equivalent to Agent Smith in the prequels as the One. Neo’s return from the sacrifice may give the plot an unusual turn and fans wonder if he makes his return for the good or bad.
Moreover, the absence of Fishburne’s villainous character as Morpheus requires a strong character to fulfill this role. The sequel’s plot is also a “love story” of a kind, and Reeves is very much impressed with Wachowski’s script which in a way promises that the sequel will be worth a watch.
Reeves sports a completely new look for the upcoming sequel. The Matrix 4 will be nothing less than a wild ride. With minimal leaks about what may happen, till then fans just need to take refuge under assumptions to quench the excitement.
