What To Know Before Watching The Murders At Starved Rock?
The series focuses on the killing of three women Mildred Lindquist, Lillian Oetting, and Frances Murphy, at the Starved Rock State Park in March of 1960. The accused was found to be then 22 years old Chester Weger, who was working as a dishwasher in the Starved Rock Lodge.
The case took fire when the bodies of the three victims were found partially buried in snow in a cave on St. Louis Canyon, where they went hiking. Weger was immediately taken into suspicion by the authorities, owing to his strange face scratches around the same time and complicated past history.
Initially, he did accept the crime stating it was the case of a robbery that went wrong but shortly after took back the statement and refused to be involved in the scene. But he finally got convicted for the killing and sent for a lifetime of imprisonment in 1961.
Where Is Chester Weger Now?
After trying for many years, Chester managed to get parole in his 24th attempt and got released from the Pinckneyville Correctional Center after almost 60 years. In October of 2021, he won the approval for testing the evidence of the crime scene but failed to do so owing to the deteriorated condition of the evidence. But to date, he grapples with fighting for his innocence.
What Happened Thus Far In The Series?
The three-part docuseries opened with the first episode named Boogeyman and showed the arrest of the accused after a year of committing the crime by Anthony Raccuglia, the prosecutor. But after decades of the case being closed, David Raccuglia, his son, takes a look into the matter.
The second part- Psychological Warfare, portrayed the emergence of new theories when David Raccuglia has clashing opinions with that of his father and tensions being accelerated when the man behind bars strives to fight for his innocence.
The third episode, Memories, shows the release of Chester Weger and his continued belief in himself about his truthfulness. David struggles to deal with the claimed evidence and the lost legacy of his father, Anthony Raccuglia.
