There’s Someone Inside Your House dropped on Netflix recently on October 6, 2021. Viewers are talking about this recently released Netflix teen-slasher movie, which is directed by Patrick Kack-Brice. The movie adapts Stephanie Perkins’ 2017 novel of the same name and has a screenplay by Henry Gayden. The movie has a runtime of 96 minutes. It was originally released at Fantastic Fest on September 23, 2021. The release of the movie is just in time to warm things up for Halloween month. But should you stream it or skip it?

Is the Netflix Slasher There’s Someone Inside Your House worth watching?

With a commendably diverse cast and occasional overwhelming gore sequences,  the horror movie certainly has its ups and downs. The characters are certainly well-developed, but the movie is retrograding from a horror perspective. The storytelling is character-driven, and the producers had remarked that they want to do an 80’s slasher with this teen-slasher movie.

While it is a Netflix Original, the obvious referential style to the genre predecessors has got the fans questioning the movie’s originality. It lacks a certain depth in both plot and location. Moreover, it shows inconsistencies in its tone, messaging, and gimmick in an attempt to repurpose the Heathers-style teen satire and Scream-type thriller mystery, which ends up making it messy and overstuffed at times.

More than horror, the strength of the movie lies in its characters. The well-rounded character development presents the viewers with real-life-like characters who face inner demons and are troubled with real problems. Hence, the movie ends up digging deeper with content that explores how amidst all the horror sequences, it establishes a sense of connection to viewers as their internal fears also hunts them down.

Hence, while the movie may lack at the horror forefront, it still makes up for a good watch. It stands apart from another teen-slasher movie, and you can give it a go for your next Halloween watch.
