The Oscars 2021

As we witnessed The Oscars earlier this week, the whole show criticized for being a little boring, especially the ending. Sir Anthony Hopkins won the award for the best actor and wasn’t even present to receive it. This Oscars night had the lowest viewership in its entire history ever since it has been broadcasted. Even Donald Trump took a little time out of his “busy schedule” to mock The Oscars.

However, one of the most exciting parts about The Oscars was the trailer of In The Heights. The upcoming Lin Manuel Miranda film, based on his Broadway shows.

In The Heights Trailer

After last year’s super successful film Hamilton, which was another one of his award-winning Broadway shows, Lin Miranda continues to bring us the best of Broadway in the form of cinema. Hamilton was an absolute monster hit, not just commercially but also critically. Similarly the upcoming, In The Heights looks set to blaze the audiences and charm them with their charisma yet again in this ethnically diverse musical. In The Heights is one of Manuel’s most successful stage musicals. It has garnered awards like The Tony Awards and many others already, and now we get to witness the greatness on screen.

In The Heights, the film will follow the same story of the stage musical, and it will be set in the fantasy land of the Latinx community of New York, where everyone is a dancer and singer. We follow Usnavi, an endearing bodega owner of the local neighborhood, as he decides to save up enough money to finally move to his late parent’s home in the Dominican Republic. We will witness how this charismatic person decides to leave and how it impacts the lives of all the beautiful and vibrant neighbors.

The Cast

The trailer looked vibrant and presented a very utopia like the imagery of New York instead of the realistic gritty and grim feel that it has. In The Heights will see Anthony Ramos in the lead role of Usnavi, Anthony also starred in last year’s Hamilton. He displayed an amazing talent on screen. Anthony was also an integral part of the multiple award-winning films ‘A Star Is Born,’ yet another breathtaking musical. Anthony has also appeared in films like Summertime, Monsters and Men, Godzilla, and White Girl.

Corey Hawkins is the other relevant name in the film. Corey got a major break in his career when he starred in the leading role in the film Straight Outta Compton where he portrayed the role of the legendary Dr. Dre. He has also been in movies like Blackkklansman, Iron Man 3, and Kong Skull Island.

Lin Manuel Miranda himself is also going to appear in the film, although it isn’t clear how big of a role he will be playing. He is, of course, the creator of the stage show and this film itself. And the film director is John M Chu. The Chu known for his breakout directorial role from 2018s Crazy Rich Asians.

Release Date

The music album will be released along with the release of the film, on 11th June. The movie put down to release in select theatres and HBO Max exclusively.
