After a pretty long wait for the Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg’s adapted musical project, West Side Story is finally out with its remarkable trailer. The movie is an acclimatized version of a 1957 superhit musical drama by the same name and was written by Arthur Laurent, music given by Leonard Bernstein, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins, and lyrics given by Stephen Sondheim. The famous Romeo and Juliet were somewhat inspired it by William Shakespeare.
This is the second adaptation of the broadway musical, the first being made in 1961, which managed to garner a number of Oscars. The movie is a directorial project of Spielberg, who also happens to be the co-producer along with Krieger, Kevin McCollum, and Kristie Macosko. The screenplay is credited to Tony Kushner, and Justin Peck is the worthy choreographer.
The trailer that got released recently showcases a love story set in 1957 New York. It is a classic tale where two individuals fall in love, but they are meant to face hardships as they belong to rival gangs of the city who wouldn’t accept their love. 20th Century Studios are set to release West Side Story on December 10th, 2021. The shooting got wrapped up in 2019 and was originally supposed to hit the big screen in December 2020. But the prevalence of pandemics and its continuous surge impacting the distribution of films got delayed by almost a year.
The wait will be finally over, and the audience will be able to witness yet another masterpiece from Academy award winner Steven Spielberg.
