As we are close to the end of December and this year, we are having some of the most-awaited and amazing movies of this year. This season’s latest movie release is oriented for musical and theatre fans. It’s the most recent cinematic version of “West Side Story,” which is centred on the iconic 1957 Broadway production. 

West Side Story is an American musical and romantic movie which is directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie during the opening weeks had crossed more than $4,1 million on Friday, including the trailer, $5,3 million on Saturday, and about more than $10 million in after the weekends.

It became a hit gradually and still earning a lot around the world. Even though this play was first converted to a cinema in 1961, it is currently being recreated with the collaboration of legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. With a whole band of top talents aiming for stardom in the Film industry, one could only guess the passion with which they’ll embrace this classic tale of beauty and heartbreak.

Is The Movie Worth Watching?

Well, absolutely yes. This movie is definitely worth watching, especially when you are a fan of Shakspeare and romantic movies. Every element of the movie presents dramatic and heartbreaking performances, with Rachel Zegler sparkling the best.

At times, the depth of the singing and the sophistication of the dancing routines will leave you stunned. Everyone is in absolute agreement with how beautifully the emotions are portrayed in this movie. The magnificent filmmaking transports you to York in the late 1940s. There is no lost opportunity when it comes to creating eye-catching camerawork and spectacular scene layouts.

Movie Plot

The plot of this movie is beautiful, heart-touching, and perfectly written with a blend of emotions. West Side Story is based on Jerome’s 1957 Musical of the very same name, which was motivated by William Shakespeare’s Plays. The storyline of the film revolves around the clash between two York street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.

Later, things get worse when a teenager Tony associated with the Jets, flirts with Maria, the niece of one of the Sharks’ bosses, Bernardo, and the rivalry that ensues, eventually leading to a terrible ending.

Well, the movie has a beautiful and sad ending which leaves a strong message for the viewers. That even though people die, love remains eternal. When Tony finds Maria at a field, he realizes she has not been dead. Chino comes and fires him as he approaches her. Tony dies in the arms of Maria, encircled by men of both crime gangs.

Maria seizes Chino’s pistol and informs the gangsters that they are all accountable for Riff, Bernardo, and Tony’s murder. The cops come and arrest Chino, as guys of the Jets and Sharks take Tony’s corpse out.

Where Can You Watch This Movie?

You can currently enjoy Westside on HBO Max with the subscription. This movie is not available on Netflix yet, but according to sources, soon it will be. You can also buy and rent this movie on Amazon Prime and Disney+. Meanwhile, the film will be available on multiple platforms in the coming weeks; you can also enjoy the westside original movie on Amazon prime in standard quality with your family and friends.
