Plot
The movie’s story is about Harry and Lloyd, played by Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, who goes from Providence to Aspen to give Mary Swanson, played by Lauren Holly, a money-filled briefcase. Harry and Lloyd are dumb but kind friends. They think the briefcase was left by accident, but it was left as ransom money. So they travel across the country to give the bag to Mary, who Lloyd has a crush on.
Filming Locations
MovieLocations.com says that most of the movie was filmed in Colorado and Utah. After Harry and Lloyd get the money case, they stay at the fancy Danbury Hotel, the Stanley Hotel at 333 West Wonder View Avenue in Estes Park, Colorado.
The scene where Llyod drops Mary off at the airport so she can catch her flight and she leaves a bag in the terminal was filmed at the Salt Lake International Airport in Utah.
The New England mansion of Mary Swanson that was shown to be in Aspen is La Caille, a 20-acre estate built in 1975 at Quail Run, Little Cottonwood Canyon, in Sandy, Utah.
Most of the scenes where the characters were on the road were filmed near Fort Morgan, which is in the eastern plains of Colorado. However, the scene where Harry and Lloyd finally get to Aspen is shot in Breckenridge, Colorado, which is at a slightly higher altitude and, as a result, is more likely to be covered in snow like Aspen is.
The mini-bike ride that Harry and Lloyd took in Aspen was also filmed in Main Street, Park City, Utah.
Review
Since it came out in 1994, the movie has gained a cult following. It did very well at the box office, making more than $247 million. The movie was a big step forward for both the Farrelly brothers and Jim Carrey. People said that after Dumb and Dumber, Jim was one of the most famous actors of the 1990s.
Over 3 million people have given the movie 7.3 stars on IMDb, and over 2.5 million people have given it 84 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also had a sequel in 2014 called Dumb and Dumber To.
