This is a fantastic psychological film. It’s a complete adrenaline rush story about a rather ambitious drummer, an abusive bandleader, and a perfectionist. This movie was officially released on October 10, 2014, in the United States. This movie has been an absolute hit.
What is the Movie About?
A first-year student named Andrew Neiman is studying at Shaffer Conservatory, which is located in New York. He has had a dream since childhood, and he wanted to fulfill his goals and follow the legacy of many famous people. Andrew meets Terence Fletcher, who is the conductor, and he leads the band at Shaffer Conservatory. After this one-night meeting, Terence invites Andrew to perform as an alternative drummer in the place 0f Carl Tanner.
Later on, Andrew gets to know that Terence is an absolute ruthless fellow, doesn’t appreciate the students’ talents, and his rage is beyond measure as he screams at them and ends up throwing objects if he’s too angry.
After a performance, Andrew happens to misplace some of the former drummer’s sheet music. Tanner could not play his part when they were summoned for the new set again, but Andrew admits that he can remember that sheet and perform the ‘whiplash’ from his memory.
And so he does, but the performance was so enthralling that Andrew gets promoted to the position of the core drummer. But at the same time, Ryan Connolly, a lower drummer too, gets recruited. Ryan gets promoted to the core, and the competition for Andrew increases. He gives up on his girlfriend, Nicole, but he even wins his position back with all his hard work.
The Next Competition!
The next competition disappoints Andrew as his bus breaks down halfway and he has to rent a car. But even then, he arrives late only to realize that he left his drumsticks at the office. He convinces Fletcher to wait till he gets them, but the car gets hit while going. He enters the theater covered with blood and injuries. Regardless of that, Fletcher stops the show in between, which angers Andrew way too much, and he hits Fletcher.
How will Andrew Save his Back?
After this incident, Andrew’s father gets a lawyer to save his son, but the lawyers are none other than a student’s parents, who have some complaints against Fletcher. Sean’s parents have accused that their son died of depression, to which Fletcher retaliates by saying that he committed suicide on his own. Now the question was, Was Sean depressed because of Fletcher’s behavior?
According to the parents, Fletcher is responsible for the boy’s untimely death and that his taunts and abuse had forced him to commit suicide. His parents are adamant that Fletcher should not be allowed to work in this profession anymore. Andrew testifies this as an anonymous person, and Fletcher is forced to go from there.
