The character of Emily restricted to only very caring and loving phone calls that she eventually and occasionally calls Dan, her father, to check on him and his mental state.
These phone calls are a developing and enriching factor for the characters of Emily and Dan Chase. It portrays Dan as a loving and caring father who is also handsome and superspy. It cares for the safety of a daughter Emily by keeping her at a distance for her mere protection from dangerous forces and organizations.
However, Dan’s former handler and current FBI Assistant Director, Harold Harper, is aware of Emily’s existence.
