Atlanta Season 1 & 2: A Refresher
After nearly 4 years, the FX series Atlanta is back with season 3. It’s been a while, so if you need a quick refresher on where things left off, this section covers it all.
The series follows a man named Earn trying to make his way into this world. He wants to prove himself to his on and off again girlfriend Van. And to provide for his daughter Lottie, but can never seem to get ahead. Eventually, he sets his sights on becoming the manager for his cousin Alfred who raps under the name Paper Boi and is starting to gain attention.
Earn, paper boi and his stoner sidekick Darius work together to navigate Atlanta’s local rap scene and make a name for themselves. While Paper Boi’s carrier becomes to take off it doesn’t exactly lead to a financial windfall for Earn. He is kicked out of the storage unit he lives at. And before he can ask for help from Paper Boi, his old friend Tracy beats him to it and slides himself in Paper Boi’s life, having Earn feel iced out.
To make matter worse Earn and Van break up. They are officially separate. His rivalry with Tracy escalates into violence, while the other two enjoy the perks of mild popularity and money, with Paper Boi adoring new fans, Darius uses his money to buy a Piano from a strange reclusive man named Teddy Perkins.
In the season 2 finale, Earn and Van is informed that their daughter is exceptionally gifted. They are told to place her in an expensive private school to help her reach her full potential. This comes to the eve of Earn departing with Paper Boi and Darius to a European Concert, tour headlined by Rapper Clark County.
Paper Boi informs Earn that he isn’t happy with his managing skills and might look for a new one irrespective of the financial help. To prove his worth and not be tired of his job, he agrees to help Paper Boi get rid of a gun, but he eventually forgets about it and ends up with it in his bag at the Airport.
He slides the gun inside Clark’s bag right before the security check. Eventually kicking him out of the concert, and making paper boi the new headline artist. Paper Boi acknowledges the move and seemed impressed. But it’s revealed that Clark’s manager was caught with the gun and he is the headline artist. Knowing Clark threw his manager under the bus, Paper Boi realized he can’t be trusted. Thus one way or the other, he appreciates Earn’s incidental attempt to sabotage Clark.
