What Is the Story About?
It’s 1986, and Alice, a high schooler, resides with her mother, Gabriella, in the suburban village of Bussoleno, where her mom advocates for a brand of equality that consists of becoming a superior driver to males working a solid manufacturing job. Alice goes to school haphazardly, preferring vocational studies over beauty lessons and delegating grooming to her lesbian best friend, Jimbo.
Alice, who is lost in her everyday malaise; jolts into a situation when she comes upon a photograph of her dad in a Milan paper. Her father, who Gabriella stated, died 10 years ago in a mass gunshot at a fair. Determined, she asks Jimbo to accompany her on a reality expedition to Milan. Still, after she is initially rejected at the prison — her dad was in the news as he was convicted for improper behavior – Alice shows up at her grandma’s spacious mansion in Milan. Nonna sends Alice to the prison herself, where a brief message to a prison officer results in a prison cell meeting with Santo Barone, Alice’s dad, whom she has not seen in a decade.
