When fans think of horror movies and series, only a few directors come to their minds. There is no shortage of movies made on zombies or undead creatures. One director does stand out from the rest, and he is George A. Romero. He has made successful zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead.

His work has been inspired in many projects, several remakes have been made, and his tales have been retold over the generations. SyFy has brought a series based on George A. Romero’s Day of the Day. Let’s find out what all fans must know before watching this series.

Release Date of Day of the Dead

The first season was released on October 15, 2021, and no doubt it has arrived on time for the Halloween binge. At the end of July, a trailer was released by SyFy on YouTube. Through the trailer, only the release date of the series was announced. The first season is confirmed to have 10 episodes.

The Cast of Day of the Dead

To elevate zombie fiction, one needs to have a great cast. The star cast includes Daniel Doheny (in the role of Luke Bowman), Keenan Tracey (in the role of Cam McDermott), Natalie Malaika (in the role of Lauren Howell), Kristy Dawn Dinsmore (in the role of Amy), and Morgan Holmstrom (in the role of Sarah Blackwood). In the series, we also see Kevin O’Grady, who plays the role of Rhodes. Originally in Romero’s movie, this role was played by Joseph Pilato.

The Plot of Day of the Dead

In the opening scene of the series, we see the Pennsylvanian and American flags. A newspaper with the headline regarding the Mawinhaken mayoral election is seen, and then suddenly footsteps over it. Luke Bowman and Cam McDermott (played by Daniel Doheny and Keenan Tracey, respectively) get up in a car that zombies encircle.

As they start to recover from this incident, a vehicle comes in which Mayor Paula Bowman (played by Miranda Frigon) is seated with a pupil from the funeral home- Lauren Howell (played by Natalie Malaika). Paula kills some zombies happily with the help of her guns. These zombies then run away, and Cam notices that one among them is his father.

Cam and his dad (who is a police officer) didn’t get along too well, especially after the death of Cam’s mother. He is literally ready to do any job which can pay him enough to flee the city. Lauren is a person who likes the dead more than the living ones. He is on parole and is none months sober. As his boss- the mayor- starts preparing for her first funeral, she observes that the dead person’s eyes have popped open.

This is the initial phase. After this, many things start to happen, like discovering a mummified body in a pit, an election rally, an attack of the zombies, and the thing faced by Cam’s dead at the end.

More Details on Day of the Dead

The series reminds us of Walking Dead: World Beyond. The timeline of the series is the same, i.e., the initial phase of a zombie apocalypse. The name of the series- Day of the Dead, is quite right from the point of view of a market strategy as other Horror franchises have received massive success during the spooky time of the year- Halloween.

To quote, we came up with the names Saw and Paranormal Activity as they are the perfect example of this strategy. It is also to be kept in mind that The Walking Dead, a favorite of horror fans, was also released on Halloween in 2010. See, release time does play a part in the reception of various genres!

The only word in the dictionary which can describe Lokesh well is "Curious". He is a man who sits in the corner of a café, sipping his coffee and watch others and write about them having a good time. Addicted to bettering himself each day. An impressive introvert who finds his home in the places he travels. It's either the power of universe or sunsets that sets his soul free. In between, He can be found wrapped in his own bubble, knitting stories even before the sun rises!
