The Primetime Emmy Award is an American award show that is conducted to felicitate and recognize the excellence of primetime television shows in America. The awards are divided into three categories: Regular Primetime Emmy Awards, Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards in recognition of the contribution towards engineering and technology in television, and Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in recognition of behind-the-scenes technicalities in television.
Unlike the virtual event held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Emmys was a big affair with a physical event with several prominent industry faces attending it. The event took place on September 19, 2021, in Los Angeles Events Deck. Emmy 2021 was a star-studded affair with several prominent faces on the television making it to the red carpet.
While the event is quite abuzz, certain moments caught the audience’s attention and the most prominent one being the speech. Here are some of the best and worst speeches from the might for the fans of different primetime shows.
The Best Speeches
With the awards being given away to the well-deserved of the television industry, there were obviously acceptance speeches that followed, and none of them could top is Hannah Waddington’s jubilant scream that was more into the limelight than the speeches. Keeping aside the fun, some really good acceptance speeches indeed made the environment jovial.
It becomes really difficult to go on a stage in front of several people and it takes quite the blend of sincerity, graciousness, humour and emotion in the sentences of a speech that should be delivered to the audience. A number of good acceptance speeches were there by the winners at the 73rd Emmys, including Lucia Anello’s speech, a writer and director who won twice for Hacks.
A HBO Max series and her speech was not only dignified, but had a great ease and panache in it. However, the most touching one was Michaela Coel’s acceptance speech which she got for her work in I May Destroy You, and she dedicated her awards to the victims of sexual assault.
The Worst Speeches
Contradictory to some of the very heartfelt and jovial acceptance speeches, some speeches made the audience question the need to deliver an acceptance speech which is so not nice. Queen’s Gambit director Scott Frank went on to give a really long speech that seemed to be way long and tested and didn’t receive any cuts. The prolonged speech was so not the need of the hour. Frank shouted quite a number of times to playoff the music and was pretty rude.
While Governors Award Winner Debbie Allen’s speech was cut in the middle, not stopping Frank definitely raised quite a number of eyebrows. Considering how Frank carried on with his speech, it was the most awkward moment of Emmys 2021, and this surely reflects Frank’s unprofessional behavior.
