Euphoria has become one of the most grounded and boldest shows ever made. The show is a well-known depiction of drug abuse, sexual themes, trauma and friendships. Euphoria is a major milestone for Zendaya as she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role for a Drama Series. Zendaya, at the age of 24, became the youngest performer to win the award.
This was also one role for Zendaya where she completely shed her image of a Disney star and is now a well-established mainstream and leading actress.
Euphoria has become one of the most popular shows worldwide since it first debuted back in June 2019. After a successful first season and two Christmas specials, the series is all set to return for a second season.
What is the Plot of the Second Season?
Zendaya revealed that the script written for the second season was “beautiful.” In the Christmas specials, Rue relapses and starts abusing drugs again. The audiences also learn that Jules’ mother is a former addict who was recovering during the events of the first season. Her mother however ends up getting hospitalized. Jules also plans to give up her hormone replacement therapy.
Rue then puts herself together and attends therapy. She goes to meet Jules where Jules attempts to apologize for leaving her. Rude however abruptly leaves leaving Jules in tears. While there are no further details of what will happen in the second season, it can be expected that Rue and Jules’ relationship will be explored further. Rue’s life will continue to receive focus as she tries to battle drug abuse and balance her relationships with her friends and family.
Who is Returning for the Second Season?
Cast members confirmed to return for the second season include Zendaya as Rue Bennet, Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard, Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn, Angus Cloud as Fezco “Fez,” Alexa Demie as Madeline “Maddy” Perez, Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs, Jacob Elordi as Nathaniel Jacobs, Barbie Ferreira as Katherine Hernandez, Storm Reid as Gia Bennett, Algee Smith as Christopher McKay, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard and Colman Domingo as Ali.
When will the Second Season Release?
Unfortunately, there is no release date for Euphoria’s second season. The production for the second season was supposed to begin in 2020 but had to be put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the shutdown of productions of various films and television shows. Eric Dane later revealed that the show began shooting in March 2021. Filming of the first season took nearly eight months to film, so the second season could release in early 2022.
It will be a matter of time to see what happens to Rue in the second season, but for the fans, it will definitely be worth the wait!
