Ever since its release in 2019, Gentleman Jack has been absent from the world of TV series. Just when the fans were losing hope came the news through Suranne Jones Instagram account that they had begun filming for the second season. Set in 1832 Yorkshire, the series follows the story of Annie Lister, an industrialist and landowner.
The series is inspired by Lister’s diary, which contains approximately over 4 million words written in a secret code journaling the lifetime of lesbian relationships. Aired for the first time on May 19, 2019, it was immediately renewed for the second season. However, the Covid situation had well torpedoed their boat as the productions got delayed.
Nonetheless, they’re back with their second installment. For more information about its release date, keep reading below.
When is BBC Planning to Release the Series, 2022 or 2023?
Even though the network hasn’t pinned on an exact date for the show’s release, it is expected to release in the spring of 2022. The series was initially supposed to go on floors in June 2022, but with the pandemic going on, the filming got postponed by 5 months to November, adhering strictly to the Covid 19 protocols.
The series has been wrapped, as is understood from Rundle’s Instagram post. The creators are incredibly excited to be back with the show.
What to Expect from the New Season?
The new season is expected to return with a lot of new plotlines. The first season has already entrenched the unorthodox and different nature of Ann Lister in comparison to a typical Yorkshire resident. Furthermore, the first season captures the romantic love story of Walker and Lister. The second season is expected to deal with the after-marriage bliss of the couple.
The season is also expected to shed light on the entrepreneur capabilities of Lister, and many people are scared of her business tactics. Although based on real-life people and real-life incidents, the makers have consistently denied the show of being a documentary.
Cast
Surrane Jones is reprising her role from the previous season. Gentleman Jack would be very dull without her powerhouse performance. Sophie Rundle will also be taking her role as Ann Walker, the romantic love interest of Anne Lister.
The rest of the cast also remains unchanged. Germany Whelan of GOT and TEOTFW fame will also be coming back as Marian Lister, Anne’s sister. Since the elderly Listers have passed away in the first season, it is highly unlikely to return other than recalls and flashbacks.
Where to Watch it and Is There a Trailer for S2?
S1 of Gentleman Jack is streaming on Hulu and Disney+ Hotstar. Other than that, it is also available on BBC iPlayer, Foxtel Now. It is also available on purchase on Apple iTunes, Google Play Movies and Fetch TV. The cast has just wrapped up the shooting for the second season, and now the show is in its post-production stage, so it is too early to expect a trailer.
However, a teaser cancer is expected pretty soon once the editing process has been completed.
