God of War Ragnarok is an action-adventure game currently being developed by Santa Monica Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Aly Amezcua and Alanah Pearce are the game’s writers, and Eric Williams is the game director. God of War Ragnarok is the ninth game in the God of War series; the ninth installment is based on Norse mythology and is set in ancient Norway.
The new game features the anti-hero Kratos popularly known as the God of War or “The Ghost of Sparta,” and his son Atreus. The sequel takes three years later after the events of the former game, Fimbulwinter is around the corner, and it has been prophesied that Ragnarok will happen. Atreus seeks answers about his personality “Loki” and tries to stop Ragnarok from taking place. They will travel the nine realms, and they will be fighting monsters and Norse Gods amidst their journey.
Expected Release Date
God of War Ragnarok is set to be released in the year 2022 on PS5 and PS4. Since the game was announced a year back, that is, in 2020. Due to very few announcements by the game director and the studio, there is very little news related to the game’s sequel apart from the game’s release date. There was speculation about the game’s release as Sony did not discuss its plans or any news related to God of War Ragnarok.
On June 2, 2021, the game’s studio issued a statement on Twitter confirming the delay of the game by one year. The studio has only mentioned the year, and they have not said a concrete date of the game’s release. But according to some reports and rumors circulating on the internet, the game is most likely to be released either in the third or fourth quarter of 2022.
In a PlayStation blog, the PlayStation studio boss Herman Hulst confirmed that the game would be available on PS5 as well as on PS4.

Where can We Expect the Game?
Since the original God of War came out in the year 2005, the game can be seen only on the PlayStation home and portable consoles. Since the PS5 has been launched globally, the game is most likely to be released on the latest console, and if the game is available on PS4, the graphics and depth of the game would be dropping considerably.
The new God of War game is significantly less likely to be available on platforms other than the PlayStation because Santa Monica studios is a studio that develops games exclusively for Sony only, and Sony will not let the game to be released on other platforms.
The Gameplay of the Sequel
On September 9, 2021, Sony Studios released gameplay and cinematic trailer for God of War Ragnarok, and it gave us what we can expect from the game. In the latest series, we can see that the gameplay will be brutal and devastatingly violent, as one would be expecting from the game also in the trailer, we can see that Ragnarok is taking place; in Norse mythology, Ragnarok is a series of unfortunate events and catastrophes taking place that will ultimately lead to the end of the world.
Looking at the trailer, we see gameplay similar to the 2018 God of War, but we can see that Kratos and Atreus are using new weapons, skills, and powers. We can also see that Mimir makes a return in the sequel, even though he is still missing his body. A number of other things can be confirmed in the new trailer as well, such as new characters in the sequel.
Moreover, it seems that a part of the story will be about rescuing Tyr, the Norse God of War, which will be very interesting because we know that the Ghost of Sparta became the God of War by killing Ares in the original franchise of the game. In the trailer, we saw a small clip of Kratos fighting with Freyja, and we can also expect that Thor would be making an appearance in this game, and he would be different from what we see in the Marvel movies.
In the game, he will be designed much closer to what we see in Norse mythology. We can also expect Odin to be in this sequel, and he can be a central character in the game. Now, let’s talk about the terrains. There will be some new and old terrains in the game because, in the trailer, we can see that Kratos is traveling in the nine realms again the place seems to be sub-zero inhospitable surroundings of Helheim as Fimbulwinter is setting upon them, new locations were also teased which appears to be a port town and an innkeeper with a pet octopus.
