Eleven, the lead character of the blockbuster sci-fi horror TV series Stranger Things is back with the latest season of the show. In the fourth season, Eleven has not been able to use her superpowers even once because of which she has had to go through a lot of trouble. The future of Hawkins and the safety of her friends ultimately rely on her powers. But how did Eleven lose her superpowers in the first place?
The Battle of Starcourt
In the finale of Stranger Things Season 3, Eleven seemed to have lost her powers during the Battle of Starcourt. It was the ultimate face-off between the Mind Flayer and Eleven and it is possible that she lost her powers because she overused them. But in season 4 of the show Doctor Martin Brenner, who trained El when she was a child, explained that Eleven suffered something similar to a stroke when the Mind Flayer attacked her in Season 3’s Battle of Starcourt. This is why Eleven’s brain has possibly suppressed some of the traumatic memories leading to Eleven forgetting how to use or access her powers. In addition to this, putting too much strain on her powers to face the Mind Flayer didn’t help either.
Will Eleven get her Powers Back?
If Doctor Brenner is to be believed, Eleven has not exactly lost her powers. She has only forgotten how to access them; her powers are still there. Her brain is basically her weapon since she mostly uses psychokinesis. If her brain is made to remember, then there is a chance that she will get her powers back. This is exactly what Doctor Brenner is trying to do in the fourth season. The process was slow but it seemed to be working. In episode 5, Eleven even used her powers for a brief moment while escaping from the guards. Although she did not consciously control the action, it still is enough to confirm that eventually, Eleven will get her powers back.
How can Eleven get her Powers Back?
Eleven lost her powers because of suppressed memories and trauma. Her mind has been running away from the truth instead of facing it. To get her powers back, Eleven needs to get rid of the fear and face the memories of her past. Doctor Brenner seems to be helping Eleven this season through her new project, designed to make her remember things from the past, specifically when and how her superpowers originated. He believes that if Eleven remembers everything then her powers will also come back stronger than ever. The process is slow but it seemed to be working. We will possibly witness Eleven using her superpowers again in the second volume of Stranger Things Season 4 which is about to be released on 1 July 2022.
