An Overview Of The Plot
The story seems to be based on a true story, and that makes it all more intriguing to watch. The film begins with Kristen Mckay and James Hoyt, who are staying at a vacation home to have some quality time for themselves without knowing about the upcoming danger.
A young blonde woman comes to their door and asks whether Tamara is there or not, but James turns her away. James then goes to buy stuff for Kristen after having started the fire. There is another knock again, and Kristen comes to know that it is the same lady who had visited James earlier. When she gets busy with some issues, she again hears a knock, and the audience sees a masked man and notices Kristen with time.
A few incidents make Kristen believe that someone is in the house, but who? She goes to find her cell phone but fails to find it, and this disturbs her. She hears some noise and takes a knife to witness who it is and sees a stranger. Kristen panics and comes inside her house and sees the blonde woman. James, in the meantime, returns when Kristen tells him about the exact incident that happened, and James also witnesses such life-haunted incidents. Now another woman joins the intruder gang, and things become all scarier.
Further More On The Plot
Mike comes, and James shoots him, who thinks him to be a stranger, shoots him down. James falls unconscious while trying to shoot an intruder, and Kristen, on hearing the shot runs to help him.
After some time witness themselves being tied to chairs. When they ask what these three masked assailants want and the reason for disturbing them, the blonde woman replies, “Because you were home,” and they unmask themselves before they attempt the brutal murders of the couple.
The audience then witnesses two boys distributing religious tracts when the blonde woman asks ask for one. The two boys come upon the house and witness the bodies of the trio, Mike, James, and Kristen. One of them touches Kristen’s body, and Kristen, still alive, grabs his hand and screams.
The Film Got Inspired By True Events
The Manson family has inspired Bryan Bertino to fabricate such a movie. The Charles Manson family murders committed and the real-life crimes have been a great story that helped the development. The group of cult members under Charles Manson and then they brutally murdered everyone in the Beverly Hills area but knew none of the victims. The initially surprising event became a disturbing insight into the notorious murders, and the nightmarish visions and terrifying portraits of the scenes were truly hard to witness.
The Strangers is an inspiration from two real-life events and another one in the series of break-ins that happened in Bertino’s neighborhood. The true stories inspired screenplay writer Bryan Bertino’s film’s DVD release called Defining Moments as well.
The Ending of the Movie
The ending of the movie shows that Kristen tries to make a call from her dead friend Mike’s phone, but the masked man snatches it away and leaves Kristen alive. Now the assailants leaving Kristen alive have raised several questions.
The Strangers Movie has not only given the audience knowledge about real-life violent crimes, but in this fictional movie, director Bryan Bertino also lets us have an idea about the obvious similarities that abound, and the final scene hints that stranger’s prey or strangers wandering is not something new. Supernatural creatures or a case that remains unsolved in the end adds more to the horror genre, and the subtle ending in this film and Kristen’s survival let us all question the film’s nihilistic gait.
