Only Murders in the Building is an American mystery-comedy series. The story follows three people, who don’t know each other but share an obsession with a true crime podcast. After there was a death in their apartment building, the people decide to start their own podcast talking about their investigation into the death which had been ruled as suicide by the police.

Only Murders in the Building season 2

The first season aired on 31st of August, 2021. The season had a total of ten episodes. Recently it was renewed for a second season which aired on 28th of June, 2022. Here is an honest opinion on the new season.

Honest Review on the Second Season

The second season shows us the three members back at it with another murder in the same building. This season focuses more heavily on the three people interacting with each other as a group of friends. This makes it a lot more personal and brings forward much more character development.

Mabel’s stoic personality is a lot more appreciable in this season. It is made clear in the first episode that Mabel is done with the detective life. She wants out from all the death and blood. By the end of the season, we can see the character in a place that might lead to an interesting take.

Charles, Oliver and Mabel remain a hilarious trio that bring out laughs all round. Amy Schumer however, isn’t that exciting to watch, even though she plays herself. But the characters are justified as they make for a fun dynamic. Humor in the show remains at the highest level. I would go as far as to say it was even more fun than the first season.

The Plot for the Second Season

The new season picks up right where the first one left off. Bunny is found dead in Mabel’s apartment, who has been set up for murder. Herself, Charles and Oliver are arrested and taken for questioning. The police don’t seem to be buying Mabel’s story. Although Mabel tries her best to convince them of the details, she can’t remember the finer intricacies.

Her memory is all blurry from the champagne. The story now takes us down the rabbit hole to find the killers of the apartment manager, Bunny. This introduces us to new characters. Amy Schumer plays herself while Cara Delevigne plays Mabel’s love interest with ulterior motives.

We also focus a little more on characters who did not gain much screentime in the first season, Bunny and other residents of the apartment.

The Cast

Steve Martin plays Charles, Martin Short plays Oliver Putnam and Selena Gomez plays Mabel. We also see Aaron Dominguez as Oscar and Amy Ryan as Jan. As stated before, Amy Schumer plays herself and Cara Delevigne plays Mabel’s love interest, Alice. Most of the cast is recurring with new additions like Amy and Cara being a pleasant surprise.

Where to watch?

Only Murders in the Building is available on Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+. Both seasons are available on Hulu right now.
