This television series is set to be released on September 21, 2021, on Fox.
Yay! The fall season is around, and many shows and movies are lined up for their release, Our Kind of People is one of them. The official teaser of the series came to our screens on July 27, 2021. It is scheduled to be premiered on September 21, 2021, at 9/8c. There are a lot of expectations from the series and is expected to be the grandest and biggest show of the fall season.
The series is going to be premiered internationally. In Canada, the series will be premiered on CTV simulcast with Fox. In India, the series will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, and the episodes will be available after they are broadcasted in the United States. In Latin America, the series is set to premiere on Star+.
Karin Gist directs the series. The development of the series based on the book was announced in September 2017. Later, in August, writing of the premise of the series took place. Due to the situation during COVID-19 and its consequences, the writing faced delays. Casting for the series took place in May 2021.
The cast includes Yaya DaCosta playing the lead role of a single mother named Angela Vaughn. Other cast members will be Morris Chestnut playing the role of Raymond Dupont, Alana Bright as Nikki Vaughn, Nadine Ellis playing the role of Leah-Franklin Dupont. Rhyon Nicole Brown will be playing Lauren Dupont, Joe Morton as Teddy Franklin, Kyle Bary as Quincy Dupont, Lance Gross as Tyrique Freeman.
Other recurring roles are Debbi Morgan playing as Patricia Williams, L. Scott Caldwell as Olivia Sturgess Dupont, Nicole Chanel Williams as Taylor, and Raven Goodwin as Josephine.
The story is based on a book by Lawrence Otis Graham of the same name. The story is from Oak Bluffs on Martha Vineyard, which is said to be a historical community for the noble and elite black members. The single mother Angela Vaughn, played by Yaya DaCosta, makes the decision to enter that world of the revolutionary and elite, and noble blacks with her hair care product. Over time she gets to know about her mother’s past and her dark secrets, which does affect not only her life but also the Oak Bluff community.
The series showcases thrill, drama, and exploring genres. It is mainly based upon race and class history in America. And also displays the achievements of the Black community.
