Things were in a dangerous position when we recently saw Claire (C. Balfe) and Jamie (S. Heughan) in the eighteenth century at the conclusion of Outlander Season 5. Claire had escaped L. Brown’s (N. Dennehy) and his gang’s horrible kidnapping and assault and was safe — at only for the time being — back in Jamie’s embrace. Fraser’s Ridge, like the rest of the region, is on the verge of upheaval, therefore it was evident in the Season 5 conclusion that the security and gradual improvement would be brief. That definitely appears to be the situation, based on the way “Echoes” begins.

ToggleWhat Happened On March 6 Episode (Opening of the Episode)?

The opening twenty minutes or so of the program transport us to 1753 when Jamie has just landed at Ardsmuir jail after the Jacobite revolt. There’s a large bunch of guys there who battled but lost versus the English, but even amongst these men, there’s a difference because some are Catholicism and several are Protestants. On the Protestant side, there’s T Christie, who appears to have a working relationship with the governor, Harry Quarry (J. Villiers).
Quarry considers Christie to be a “more nice type” than Jamie, although he does recognize and appreciate Jamie’s position of influence among the inmates. Although Jamie and Christie don’t always agree, there appears to be some genuine, if reluctant, affection between the two men. In any event, Jamie’s luck quickly improves when Quarry agrees to Jamie’s desire to become a cultural icon and convert the jail into a vault. Quarry didn’t appear to be all that interested in being a jail warden after all.
What Happened On March 6 Episode (Middle of the Episode)?
Let’s fast travel to 1773 in North Carolina. Claire is soundly asleep, but Jamie is having a difficult time waking her up. She’s overjoyed when she eventually wakes up. She appears to have figured out how to make ethereal, which she claims puts the person in a state of “greater depth than slumber,” making operation considerably simpler and less unpleasant.
Jamie reveals that General McDonald, who succeeded the previous Governor as Governor, has asked him to join the Crown’s Indian broker team in order to restore ties with the Cherokee tribe. Claire wants him to say no, and he promises he will, but plot twist: he will learn his lesson before the conclusion of the program.
What Happened On March 6 Episode (Conclusion of the Episode)?

We get a look at Claire’s present mental state by the conclusion of the episode. Seeing Richard has given her awful flashbacks, though she was probably already suffering them. She awakes panicking but claims to be OK and only requires a cup of tea. Instead, she prepares a dosage of poison and passes it out on the other room’s mattress. Claire’s journey this season will undoubtedly be difficult. Caitriona Balfe has suggested as much in previous appearances, so it’ll be fascinating to see what happens.
