The Chair is a Netflix original sitcom that showcases the story of a young woman who is also the first woman of color to receive a faculty position at a major university to meet the hefty responsibilities and high requirements of a crumbling English section. Sandra Oh gets the honor of portraying Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, one of few women faculty members at the university.
And she becomes the first female head of the department, facing many challenges along the way. Enrollment is plummeting in the department, and the senior staff members approaching the end of their teaching careers seem least concerned.

ToggleRelease Date of The Chair Season 2
It is still unclear whether The Chair will have a second season on the OTT platform, but it is apparent that the show is not intended to have just one season. The digital company marketed the initial series of episodes as season one, thus implying that there also might be additional installments if viewers want to watch. Despite its somewhat brief runtime concerning others, the series has engaging character dynamics and intriguing plots.
As for season 2, no formal announcement has been made as to whether it will be produced. In the coming months, the show’s popularity and audience numbers will likely be evaluated, determining whether a second season will be made. By creating characters with multiple layers and complex relationships, the first season opens up future installments.
One of the show’s devoted co-writers, Amanda Peet, has provided just enough intrigue to the central characters to leave them craving more. In addition, a larger story will soon unfold based on how season 1 has played out. Thus, at least one more season looks likely to enjoy significant support. We expect Season 2 of The Chair to be released between mid and late 2022, provided the green light is given soon, and there is no significant delay in production.
The Cast of The Chair Season 2
Sandra Oh will likely return as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the English department head of the faculty oust at Pembroke College in the finale of The Chair if it is renewed for another season. As Professor Joan Hambling, a close coworker of hers, Holland Taylor’s performance was recognized for her long-overdue accomplishments. Taylor will also likely be spotted in season two, joining other veteran university staff members Bob Balaban, Ron Crawford, and David Morse. Also, we would see what happens next for disgraced professor Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass), who is adamant about getting his job back at the university despite admitting that his odds are slim. The famous professor Yaz McKay may also return, although Nana Mensah was reconsidering leaving Pembroke after season one.
What will be the Plot of Season 2 of The Chair?
Toward the end of season 1, Ji-Yoon realizes Bill’s charges against him are unjust and that the token changes made to appease student protests will not suffice. Bill is fired for her stand up for him, and they reestablish the bond on the rocks after she stepped back from the disciplinary committee. Season two may prove to be the first to see Bill’s bond with Ji-Yoon develop after she stepped back from the disciplinary committee.
Additionally, we will find out if Bill returns to Pembroke or is forced to find work elsewhere. Finally, Joan will take over the English department as Chair, which likely means we’ll see more of Ju Hee’s antics as she becomes more involved.
