If you are among those anxiously waiting for the release of the fifth installment of The Last Kingdom, then guys its time for you to hold your hearts and stretch your waiting time a bit longer because we have some sad news for you,
The Last Kingdom: Season 5 isn’t Releasing Soon? Why is it Getting Delayed?
When the fourth season of the last kingdom wrapped up in early 2021, all the fans anticipated for was a renewal for the fourth chapter. But, much to our rejoicing, Netflix also gave a green light and went with everyone’s speculations, and it was affirmed that the fifth chapter would make an appearance on our screens by august!! But sadly, August is over, and things aren’t going to happen as we all predicted!
So why isn’t not happening? Although the shooting for the film has winded up so far, the post-production is one thing that the series has to go through that would take few more months to finish up finally. So if we go with the duration with which Netflix has been rolling in the installments, we can expect the show’s arrival only at the end of this year or early 2022!
Cast and Crew of the Fifth Installment: Who is Going to be in it?
Given the savagery and blood-spattered scenes that we saw In the previous chapter, it is amply clear that this time we have to bid farewell to the former chapter; among those who aren’t going to make an appearance in this new installment are Toby Regbo’s Aethelred, Ian Hart’s Father Beocca and Cnut (Magnus Bruun) and Steapa (Adrian Bouchet) as all these characters drew their breath amid the bloodbath of the season 4.
One character who is definitely going to blowback in season 5 is Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, Emily Cox as Brida, Timothy Innes as King Edward, Mark Rowley as Finan, and others. However, the arrival of Eliza Butterworth’s Aelswith, who Adrian Schiller’s Aethelhelm poisoned, is still coverd under speculations. In addition, Ryan Quarmby, Ewan Horrocks, Harry Gilby, Phia Saban have also been added to the cast.
What Can We Expect this Time?
Going to the official synopsis of Netflix, it is amply stated that Uhtred meeting his destiny would be more than Bebbanburg. This time, Uhtred bears the responsibility of training King Edward’s first-born son Aethelstan into warriors. It is highly clear that Uhtred has more significant dimensions of plan and ambition embedded in his mind. Uhtred might recapture his ancestry town, which he lost to his villainous uncle. Still, fate might have something else stored for him, and he might get steered from realizing his dreams as he is tied to oaths and Britain’s peace jeopardizes to convert into a battle of Demolition.
If this time Aelswith manages herself to get back to life after healing herself from the poison, and if this happens, then we may see Aelswith scrapping her opponents and ensuring that Aethalstan does not get a powerful ally in the court, which would have calamitous aftermath for Aethalsan’s family.
Will the Final Season 5 be Based on the Novel in its Entirety?
The last season4 of the series covered the story of Bernard Cornwell in the book The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne, and this time, too like all the previous seasons, the incidents of the series will again be based on Bernard’s continuation to his novel titled Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer.
Season 1 of the series was the same as the book’s storyline, but as season 2 landed and till the fourth season, we have seen a drift of the story mentioned in the novel; the series has managed to pull up something interesting with its every new season.
Have the Series Covered all of Bernard Cornwell’s Books?
No, not all the books have been covered by the series as there are two more books to go, namely war of the ‘wolf sword of the kings ‘and ‘war lord.’ And if season 5, as mentioned already as the last season, doesn’t be the last season, then we can expect 7 seasons of the last kingdom.
So whatever twists and turns come up in season 5, we still have to wait a bit longer for its arrival till then; stay tuned to us for more updates.
