The Tourist is a show which deals with mystery and thrillers. The market for mystery and thriller shows is getting quite competitive these days, with so many new names and the new inclusion of other Eastern TV shows – be it Chinese or Korean – as well. Unfortunately, however, not all of these mystery or thriller shows are as good as they promise to be.
That’s why we are here to help you decide whether you should skip The Tourist or stream it. Harry and Jack Williams are the creators of this intriguing and entertaining series. Renowned for his role as Christian Gray in the hit movie series, Fifty Shades of Gray, Jamie Dornan acts as a crash victim with amnesia in the BBC series The Tourist.
The Tourist – Plot
Jamie Dornan’s character, whom we all know is called “The Man,” gets into a severe car crash with a truck in Australia. He discovers he has amnesia when he wakes up, and ‘KILL ME’ is written on his forehead. Just because he cannot remember his past doesn’t mean that his past doesn’t remember him. Before he can try to remember what he was before he got into the accident, the past catches up to him.
The man and those he meets in Australia’s arid deserts are all trying to find out about his past before he is killed. And, who knows how shady the man’s past is? Jamie Dornan dubbed the script as “one of the most exciting” ones he has ever received.
The Tourist – Review
With such a star-studded team of actors, everyone did expect a lot from The Tourist. It is reminiscent of the movie Memento regarding the main character’s predicament. The episodes are as confusing as the man must have been feeling – we are as clueless as he is. These days’ mystery-thriller TV shows are not what they promise to be, and very rarely, you find a show you wished would go on longer.
The Tourist is a show which lasts just 6 episodes but makes you yearn for more. Although the primary genre of the show is thriller and mystery, the same unfolds slowly but never without enough action. Great action scenes are predominant in all of the six episodes.
As the story of The Tourist takes place in an arid part of Australia, the clichés and stereotypes don’t hamper its progress. Hence, the show’s cinematography is as good as the plot itself.
The Tourist – Should You Stream It or Skip It
If you are a fan of the slow-burning plot that holds your interest until the very end and a show with enough plot twists to make your head turn, then The Tourist is perfect for you. However, the show is not just about mystery, thriller, or even action scenes. It’s about the things we do and how they always hold leverage on us. Our memories help us label a certain thing as a bad thing or a good thing.
Fate gave the man – keeping his past aside –a chance to be reborn; he had new ideas, motivations, and goals. But that didn’t mean that he was a messiah, nor did it make him a villain after his past was revealed. The show helps us face the fact that people are not entirely good or bad. This show gets a massive “stream it and binge-watch it if you can” from us.
