What is the Series About?
The show starts with King Louis XIV reaching the age of 28 and becoming the sole command of his kingdom. The series is filled with various aspects like betrayal, love, lust, and declarations of war. With the past haunting the king, he commissions the most beautiful palace ever in Europe, none other than the Palace of Versailles.
With such a beautiful palace built, every noble wants to be able to be inside it. But the Sun King did not build it for the purpose of entertainment but to imprison and control them.
One of the prime targets of the king was his younger brother, Monsieur who is an exceptional, dandy, and formidable warrior. Louis’ queen, Marie Therese also considers the court to be a battleground for her as she has to do everything possible in her reach to be able to win back her king.
With so much happening around in the palace, it becomes a place where the courtiers battle for the king’s favor. The show truly shows Versailles in all its brutal glory.
The main cast includes George Blagden as Louis XIV. His brother, Monsieur Philippe I, is played by Alexander Vlahos. Tygh Runyan, Stuart Bowman, Amira Casar, Evan Williams, Noemie Shmidt, are also part of the main characters.
Anna Brester plays the king’s favorite mistress and Maria Theresa of Spain who is the king’s wife is played by Elisa Lasowski. Maddison Jaizani, Jessica Clark, Pip Torrens, Harry Hadden-Paton, and Greta Scacchi also portray many important characters in the story.
