1883, Paramount+’s successful sequel to Yellowstone, is the most popular conventional TV Western in over a few years. The show, created by auteur Taylor Sheridan, moves the immense scale of the modern-set Yellowstone to the Old West, portraying the narrative as to how John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) forefathers came over the Great Plains to Montana to homestead the Yellowstone Ranch.

It stars Tim McGraw as James Dutton, a world-weary man yearning for a better quality of life for his clan, and Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan, a grumpy old trail boss who leads a wagon train over hundreds of acres of treacherous terrain.
