Daniel Ezra plays the lead role in the American television sports drama All American. Premiered on October 10, 2018, the CW series is based on the life of professional American football player Spencer Paysinger. The series was renewed for the third season that premiered on January 18, 2021.
The series was then renewed for a fourth season in February 2021, and this season premiered on October 25, 2021. Finally, the series has been renewed for a fifth season in March 2022.
What Is The Show All About?
A talented high school football player from South LA gets selected for Beverly Hills High. This is when two very different families from different backgrounds collide. It’s inspired by the life of pro football player Spencer Paysinger.
Although the show is based on his life, the writers have taken the creative liberty to change the story according to them every here and there.
One of the main evidence of this is that Spenser is named. Differently he is called Spenser James. The other changes are added to bring drama to the show and increase its entertainment quotient.
Life Of Spenser James
Paysinger was never a victim of gang shootings, as shown in the show. However, in season 2, Spenser is shown to be shot during a sudden shooting, and he is rushed to the hospital, where other gang members try to kill him.
Spenser James, unlike Paysinger, does not quite have his dad’s support in his career. In the show, James’ father, Corey, passed away due to a lifelong illness.
Corey was a high school football coach and wanted to coach his son on the field. However, his passing away was so traumatic for James that he decided to walk away from the sport and returns to his old school in season 3.
In real life, Paysinger’s father is alive and coached his son both in Beverly Hills High.
Who’s Carrie?
Layla is the ‘it girl’ of Beverly High, but she is just a lonely girl in reality. We see Layla falling for James, and she is his ex.
She is one of the show’s main characters and is portrayed by Greta Onieogou.
Portrayed by Anna Lore, Carrie is a friend to Layla. They met at the rehab, and like Layla, she is a recovering alcoholic with some real attachment and abandonment issues.
What Happened To Carrie?
Before the season 3 finale, we see Layla suggesting Carrie visit her parents so that they can know that she’s safe and doing well. Of course, she also joins her for a visit.
They go on a mini-vacation to Layla’s dad’s house in Tahoe, and before the two leave, Carrie writes down a suicide note and leaves it on the kitchen counter, and she mentions that Layla also plans to kill herself. When Layla’s dad found the note, he tried calling his daughter but later found her cell phone in the trash.
