Story Of Surviving R Kelly
“Surviving R Kelly” is a six-part documentary series that explores sexual abuse and misconduct allegations against singer R. Kelly over two decades. However, due to the graphic nature of specific details in the docuseries, HBO has opted not to air it in the United States.
The documentary recounts reports of a culture that allowed inappropriate and illegal behavior by an influential man in R&B and pop music to go unchecked for years.
The documentary is primarily based on the Village Voice’s 2017 report, “R. Kelly: The Real Story,” which included interviews with women and parents of R. Kelly victims. John Carpay, president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms and one of the sources for the series, helped uncover evidence that led to an investigation into R. Kelly.
“Pros And Cons Of The Surviving R Kelly Documentary”
This is a pretty lengthy documentary. It runs for three hours, and that’s without commercials. Without the commercials, it’s almost four hours long. With this caveat in mind, we will talk about some of the good and bad things about Surviving R Kelly.
Of course, quite a few victims in this documentary have been giving their accounts of what happened to them with R Kelly from a profoundly personal level. Their testimony included being taken away from their families to live on a ranch in the country, having their music banned and abused, and the systematic brainwashing that Kelly subjected them to.
The audience will also hear from friends and family members of Kelly, who offer incredibly negative portrayals of his behavior. The scope of his fame comes crashing down around him as he is accused of forcing underage girls to be in sexual relationships with him. He was charged with keeping a young girl prisoner for three years, along with other allegations.
