Is this Robert De Niro’s first attempt at a samurai movie? Unfortunately not, but that doesn’t change the fact that the actor gave one of his best performances in John Frankenheimer’s action thriller from 1998. It has a fantastic ensemble cast and was written by John David Zeik and David Mamet (writing as Richard Weisz).
De Niro collaborated on a fascinating story with actors Stellan Skarsgard, Sean Bean, and Jonathan Pryce about a group of former special operators who undertake a heist operation to steal a mysterious, well-protected bag as their loyalty is tested. The vehicle chases are especially stunning, and De Niro is unquestionably in top form.
