Adventurer Lara Croft’s fame is growing by the minute. Her character, Tomb Raider, became an icon of the industry and a poster child for the new 3D gaming age that was blossoming at the time, despite being one of gaming’s first female protagonists. “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and its 2003 sequel, “The Cradle of Life,” both starring Angelina Jolie, were made into films in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
A new Netflix animated series will bring Lara Croft to the small screen. There are a lot of video games and Hollywood blockbuster films that she has already appeared in. This time around, Lara Croft will be venturing into the ever-expanding anime sector, thanks to Netflix and Legendary TV. Expect these events to be addressed if the anime is a continuation of the Tomb Raider trilogy (which also includes Rise of the Tomb Raider).
Release Date
Netflix only revealed its plans to develop a “Tomb Raider” anime in January (via Variety), so, understandably, it hasn’t set an official release date yet. Based on this, the “Tomb Raider” program is expected to be released on Netflix in 2022 or 2023.
There is another theory to this but holds less proof. It’s also worth noting that the original Tomb Raider game debuted on PlayStation in 1996, making 2021 the franchise’s 25th anniversary year. As a result, we’d expect the series’ creators, Legendary, to do everything they can to get Lara to Netflix as soon as possible.
Who are All in for this Anime?
Hayley Atwell has been confirmed as Lara’s voice. We know her from MCU and Mission Impossible 7, where she plays Agent Carter. With Peggy Carter slated to return as Captain Britain in the second season of Marvel’s What If? Atwell has already been honing her voice acting talents. As a consequence, she isn’t surprised that she got the position. This is the only character that has been announced for the show, other than Lara Croft.
However, except for the return of Jonah Maiava, Lara’s devoted friend throughout the trilogy, the picture is very much blank.
What will it All be About?
Apparently, the series will begin after “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” the third game in Tomb Raider’s reboot series. As a result of the game’s finale, Lara is left in a condition of “neutrality.” Without knowing where she will go next, Lara finishes “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” at her luxurious house. The narrative of the anime is no exception since anything may happen. An ancient relic that Lara removed from an abandoned temple has set off an end-of-the-world scenario.
Pedro Dominguez, leader of the secretive and heavily armed Trinity organization, was determined to get his hands on the relic and remake the world in his image; thus, she was forced to make this option. There were Mayan prophesies mystical artifacts, and intricate tomb riddles to solve throughout the game, which also addressed Lara’s father’s terrible demise.
